soy una bailarina de tango (i am a tango dancer)

the professionals (marisa talamoni and her dance partner)
the dancers!

We took a class at "La Casa del Tango" with one of the most well-known tango dancers in the world, Marisa Talamoni.  Her grace and quick movements make the tango look easy, but I have learned that it is a very complicated dance, almost like a language in itself.  Argentina is the birthplace of the tango and the history behind it is fascinating.  Argentina received over 4 million immigrants before the turn of the 20th century from European countries like Spain, Italy and France.  All living in the working class neighborhoods, there were many different languages spoken and it was almost impossible for one group to communicate with another.  Thus, tango was born.  The dance provided the immigrants with a common language and activity to unite them.  It is a method of expressing emotions and feelings without a single word; the body does all the talking.  Today, the tango is danced all over the world, but its roots continue to lay here in Argentina.  There are many tango workshops and clubs/bars to tango in here in Rosario, and I will have to test out my newly acquired skills in one of them soon.
